Are there any figures that your friends and family like?

My relatives visited my parents to celebrate my cousin's 18th birthday and also his brother's wedding! Most were simply out of state but a couple flew all the way from the Philippines.

Anyway, lots of celebrations to be had, a lot of, "Wow, you're not the geeky cousin that I used to know!" Moments and stories to be shared. So many relatives came that I eventually had to let some of them stay at my place.

First thing they saw, my collection. I was prepared for the incoming murmurs of disapproval but they were more receptive to it than I thought! Nothing ecstatic but they were accepting of my hobby. A lot of them (again lol) questioned why I had so many girl figs but all of them seemed to like at least one thing out of my collection. The men liked my Table Top Museum Figmas and my NECA Xenomorph. My cousins loved my Figma Gurlukovich and praised it as the best looking soldier fig they saw. I think one of them even had his eye on Figma Rin Shiba and Yukiko a bit too much haha.

For the women, ha! The Nendoroids. They just can't get enough of Nendoroid Alice Cartellet and Feena. They also liked my GuP figures.

Universally, everyone loved Jeanne. Some mixed thoughts about her lack of greaves but her pride and dignity won them over.

What surprised me though is my grandma. She's old, grumpy, and only likes certain people in the family. She was enamored by my Fate/Extra Saber swimsuit statue. I mean, really liked it. She picked it up and inspected every inch, nook, and crany of it lmao. She then set it down and slowly rotated it for a once over. She grabbed my upper arm and said to the group, "Kahit paano, mai standards and apo ko!" (No matter what, my grandson has standards!) Grandma LOVES beauty. She loved her curves, her breasts, and her doll like face. Shoot, she even launched into her "Back in my days" stories on how she was the most sought after woman in her home town when she was in her prime lol

Sorry for the long read, but it feels really nice knowing people close to you kind of appreciate your hobbies.

My non-collecting friends particularly like Alter's Saber Alter dress ver. ITEM #287683, since she's really elegant and graceful. My mom also really likes Alter's Archer ITEM #236266, for the nice look of his cape-thingy. My brother was really impressed by GSC's Matoi Ryuuko ITEM #198444, probably because she has quite a 'grande' and fiery look (he didn't even notice how little she was actually wearing at first, lol)

XD That is just plain awesome about your Grandmother! :D I was thinking I knew her reasoning when I got to the part with her. Easy to forget the elderly were once as we are now, and really it is just so cool she saw some of herself in Saber. The pose she has and the way she is seductively showing off her curves in her bikini is just so feminine. it strikes me and I guess her as well as the kind of pose a girl does for her beloved to show off to him. And if she was as sought after as she claimed then that would add to it. Another thing that impresses me is the appreciation for detail. I know some people, and I am pretty sure my family, would see Saber wearing a bikini and just think 'pervy figure'. The sheer amount of detail put into each curve and part of her body is amazing, her boobs are huge but sit in her bikini how big ones would, and her legs, muscles, and arms are sculpted well enough to show just how attractive she is. There is care and accuracy taken in producing this figure and i just love that someone older would appreciate that.

My Dad i dont think was okay with my collecting, probably saw it as a waste of money and geeky. My mom is generally supportive, likes to call my many Fairy Tail figures 'dancer girls' because they wear bikinis' but she can appreciate them and as far as she goes if they make me happy, and i dont spend too much at once she doesnt mind. My little brother is pretty supportive though. He likes my Halo Spartan figures and the male dbz ones more and has bought me two which RULES! But i am glad family is spread out because i dont think any of my girl cousins would like them and i KNOW none of my grand parents would approve. Even the nice two.

MY family is kind of involved with my collection?

My mother doesnt mind it too much aslong as I like it and they make me happy.
My father loves them, especially figmas. he likes the cationfigure ones the most but also loves scales. because its cool seeing all the details on a figure. and concidering he knows a few of the characters its rather fun for him to see them like that.
Both parents kind of remember some names of some of my figures too or what they are from wich is really nice. especially from mom since she isnt into this sort of thing at all.
Mom mostly reconises these figures: ITEM #98865 ITEM #3136 ITEM #144335, and Mom seems to support my amiibo collection by always asking if were in a store if they have any i wanted
dad same as above but also likes any naruto ones i got before and ITEM #183425 he was in awe about her. He also soemtimes while in a foreign country for work calls me about amiibos and will bring me one ome if they got any i didnt have yet. wich is sweet <3

My sister doesnt think much of it. she just goes "Oh, fun right?" when i get a new figure. its not her cup of tea at all but she isnt negative about it (most of the time) I think she likes ITEM #39539 because the hair is pink.

My grandparents like it. they just enjoy seeing the figures, think its interesting they come from so far and watch and eventho they dont know much about it they always support my collecting hobbies. and my anime/manga hobbies :) if they visit they look at the new ones and comment they are nice.

Overall my relatives like it. cousins remark on how cool they are, especially the ones who love anime aswell, the others just think they are pretty or intersting. aunts and uncles like them too and one gave me a buying tip to get them 'cheaper' (shes unaware of bootlegs not being okay for my hobby, but its a nice gesture she wanted to tip me on some cheaper one?)

Your story totally made my morning- the part about your grandma especially!

My family seems to be pretty okay with my collection, but that may be because they don't know about anime too much/the value of figurines. Although one time my baby cousin grabbed my Mercedes figure and pretended that she was flying around (I almost panicked LMAO) ITEM #13123 , and another time a family friend from Vietnam loved ITEM #54503 so much that she took several pictures of it!

However, my mother who watches anime/appreciates art in general is especially fond of ITEM #78366 ITEM #117907 ITEM #223711 and calls them "exquisite" because of how beautiful they are to her. (Pretty detailed dress and wings- maybe I'm seeing a pattern here?) She tells me that I should buy more of these "exquisite" types of figures instead of the ones that are a bit more mediocre. Meanwhile, my dad is appreciative of the collection but only makes funny comments about revealing figures such as ITEM #199359 and says that I should let him display such figures in his own room instead, lmao

Yep, my mother doesn't completely approve of my hobby (but since I'm spending my own earnings she has to put up with it), but she likes some of my figures very much. When she sees something new in my collection she always says "it's nice", but some picked up her interest more. These are: ITEM #75212 ITEM #27938 ITEM #69041 ITEM #61721

Eeeeyup. I moved house and didn't take my detolf with me. So my mother commandeered these four
ITEM #25218
ITEM #41779
ITEM #27627
ITEM #56604
(because they're her favourite and I wanted to leave something of mine there (she misses me) and they're nice to look at whenever I'm visiting. She looks after them too and has the lights on in the detolf when she's reading.
