hello! this is just a quickie article. i finally got detolf extenders on etsy, they got in tonight and i’ve just finished installing them and rearranging my figures. however, i keep thinking about the max weight of figures placed on top of the glass. my mind keeps thinking that the glass will break under three 1/4 figures ;u;

i know detolf shelfs have a 13 pound weight limit but uhh… i don’t have a weight scale to weigh figures so i’m going by eye. this is what my top shelf’s look like with the extenders. do you guys think i will be ok with these figures on top?

because my anxiety is rising thinking about the glass breaking and the 1/4s falling down to my 1/7s below them… ;u;) the weight is as evenly distributed as i could make it. what do you guys think? will the shelfs be ok?

because my heart will absolutely break along with the glass if it does break

I have actually weighed my 1/4 bunnies and unfortunately each one is different despite all of them are from FREEing and all are of almost equal size. I have wrote about it here BLOG #49348

I have seen many different max load for a Detolf shelf posted on the 'net but to play it safe, I go with what it says on the IKEA site which is 3.5 kg (8 lbs -ish). I see you have a Haruna bunny and I can tell you she is 0.5 kg in weight. Technically you may think a Detolf shelf should hold 7 bunnies but unfortunately they are all different. Mugi here is about 0.8 kg.

PS: I sometimes bake, therefore I have a weighing scale! ^^

BTW what extenders did you use? I did consider those metal clips but my main concern is not really how much can the glass shelf take but if these clips will hold well and not slip. Which will be disastrous if it does...

If you worry about weight (and maybe cost, as you are using detolfs), garage racks may be another option. While they don't have doors or sides, they can hold a lot of weight. This is more common with resin statues. The more expensive route would be something like ModuCase (Singapore, moducase.xyz/), and there are US distributors of them (Speculative Fiction Collectibles, Sideshow Collectibles).

I have some detolf but can’t say I love them, they are just the only option I’ve found so far that isn’t a bookcase.

Well, I do use IKEA products for my displays, just not the Detolf. I use the Klingsbo and Milsbo cabinets, and where I used to live I had a couple of Fabrikor.

They're more expensive than the Detolf, but they also don't look like they'll fall over if struck by a harsh word.

Bandaid tip for OP: put the 1/7's above the 1/4's instead xD

Try not to overthink it and just keep the total weight well under the recommended.

Just because they are relatively cheap it does not mean Detolfs are unsafe - all glass based products will use similar safety glass.

Your unit will be absolutely fine as long as you built it correctly and don't overload on the weight. Most 'accidents' are to do with incorrect assembly, lack of tightning, or extreme overloading.

Some people disagree, but I also clean the glass with the shelves left in. If you use a cloth gently and hold the glass it will be fine - much less risky than to take out in my opinion.

Personally I've always thought Detolfs look like they're held together with air and fervent wishes. If you stare at them hard enough, surely they'll implode. But I and the others like me are but a small minority here, hunted almost to extinction.
(Please note I have sometimes been known to exaggerate for humorous effect. Sometimes.)

Ditto over here. I used to have one till I read the horror stories of them spontaneously exploding like a bad Looney Tunes skit. Made me realize that it didn't make sense for me to be storing some neigh-irreplaceable figures in something I wouldn't store one of my potted plants in.

Lone-Gunman15日前#98556972Seriously, I'll never understand you guys.
You spend thousands on figures and put them in a Detolf?
Like buying 10 Lamborghinis and putting them in a cardboard garage.
I bet just one of your 1/4 figures is worth more than 3 Detolfs.
And then you're afraid that the cheapest of cheap glass-door cabinet might break.

Diancie15日前#98519132I think it should be fine, but I wouldn't overdo it. People might have heavier and more things on their shelves, but if it doesn't break now, it doesn't mean it can't break in the future.. just the cases of people's detolf glasses exploding randomly after years is enough for me.
If you want to look up the weight, I order figures from the online shop called Figuya which always lists the size and weight of the figures. It's a German shop but you can also pick Englisch as your language. The site will only display in stock and preorder items, but you can search up for the figures you own and pick "sold out" and they will show up. Or simply like I do, use google search. Like for example "figuya zero two bunny" and it will appear immediately.

Wow thank you! I did not know this!

I know the default setup for a detolf can hold those figs no prob but you're using extenders so not sure.
