Figma #174 Kirito (Sword Art Online)Figma #174 Kirito (Sword Art Online)

Ladies and gentlemen, I present a review of a Figma that most of you may or may not have in your collection right now. Ladies and gentlemen, I give a the review of:

Figma #174 Kirito (Sword Art Online/SAO)

Now before I get on with the review, I want to clarify a few things. 1) I'm not a fan of SAO nor do I hate it. 2) I'm also not a fan of the characters, nor do I hate. Though I do find some of the character's design interesting. And 3) This review will focus on Figma Kirito, and only on Figma Kirito. I won't bringing up the details and specific info from the anime (or the LN by extension). I will however share few of my thought of Kirito's design along the way in this review.

Well then, let's get this review over with.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373727901.jpegNice looking box art, though I expected it to be black.

Being one of this year's most anticipated action figure in my collection, I have a lot of expectation with this Figma. But at a same time I try not to keep it way too high. While Kirito isn't one of my top favorite anime characters (in term of his personality), I do find his design interesting. Compared to other RPG-esque anime/video game characters, Kirito isn't as flashy or showy. I do understand that the design was to emulate Kirito's loner personality, I find it much more bearable compared to other RPG-esque characters out there.

Detail wise, it's great for most part. The sculpts are nicely done, capturing most of the details that was seen on the anime. As for the paint apps, there are some minor flaws, but it's hardly worth nit-picking over since the figure itself are not that colorful to begin with.

As for the accessories, he comes with just about enough. Aside from the default neutral expression and a pair of fist, he comes with:
  • His signature sword, Elucidator.
  • His secondary sword, Dark Repulser.
  • A single sword clip.
  • A dual sword clip.
  • 2 slashing effect parts.
  • A shouting expression.
  • A lazy expression.
  • A pair of gripping hand.
  • A pair of sword-gripping hand.
  • A pair of open palm.
  • And lastly, an extension piece for Figma stand.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373728597.jpegThe single sword clip fits in on his back perfectly. No muss, no fuss. But don't even think of trying the Dark Repulser on that one. It won't fit.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373728599.jpegThe Elucidator in its Figma glory. Nothing too fancy, but nothing too underwhelming. I also expected it to be in black. Too bad I didn't do a similar photo-shoot for Dark Repulser to show of its details. A fair warning; both swords are prone of breaking, so be EXTREMELY careful when fitting the swords onto the hand.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373728931.jpegFor the articulation, I'm very impressed. He's much better articulated than Figma Shirou Emiya, Figma Touma Kamijou, Figma Koyomi Arararagi, I mean Araragi, and Figma Kiritsugu Emiya. Those 4 I mentioned are the Figmas of male characters that are in my collection.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373728933.jpegTime for some dual-wielding awesomeness. The slot for the sheath are in different size so it should be easy for you to tell which sword go which.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373729470.jpegBefore I forget to mention, those effect parts a kinda of a dead weight. Not as bad as the one that comes with Figma Saber Zero, but still quite troublesome.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373729472.jpegSide boss battle. Begin!
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373729774.jpeg"Here I go! LEEEROOOY JEEEEEENKIIIIIN!!!"
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373729776.jpeg*cue an awesome Kajiura score*
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373729778.jpeg"Despair awaits you at the end of the line."
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373730114.jpeg"Well, that was quick. Let's see what kind of items did you drop."
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Terrorhunt1373730116.jpeg"Only a crystal? *sigh* Should have kept the Dual-wield skill for the real boss."

Even though I don't like SAO and the characters, I really love this figure. This figure features all the goodness of Kirito's design from the anime through and through. Even if you're not a fan of the series or Kirito, You can't deny of how well made are this figure. While there are a few negative bits on this figure, it doesn't take away much from it. Plus, the price aren't too demanding.

Since I'm not a fan of SAO, this review might not be as insightful as most would hope for. Regardless, my opinion stands. All I can say is that I highly recommend this figure for both fans and non-fans of SAO. I hope that Figma Asuna will also surpasses my expectation, just like Figma Kirito.
