shoOriginally, like 3 years ago when I attempted to do such, my intent was to make money off hits or referral type advertising... I really hate ads though, now I'm just going to be doing it for my own hobby/bordeom/interest or whatever. I could do maybe a months worth in regards to figures LOL.... but like I stated before, I don't only care for figures, I'm big in the anime scene in regards to fansubbing... there's drama as well, which goes beyond just Japanese... obviously Music... right now I'm in America so sometimes I like to right reviews regarding US artists, producers... etc... I guess "news" wouldn't be the right term to use... I just want to be an active review/discussion blogger... posting articles and never receiving feedback sucks, it's like a nightmare lol
Well I guess the only advice I can give you now comes from Merlin Mann. Stop talking about writing and just write. Nothing is going to make you a better writer than writing. Same logic applies to anything you want to do, the old adage that practice makes perfect always applies.

shoYes and no, primarily (as of now) would only cover figures I own personally, or am planning to own. However, do those news sites do verbatim translations of announcements from official sources in a timely manner, or is it more along the lines of... Let's wait til there's an English announcement and pictures we can copy/paste. Figure's are a completely new area for me, in the past I'd done news announcements regarding anime and was quite "successful," considering the data was relayed through a forum opposed to a blog format I can equate the registration/interaction stats as "success." In any case, I'd agree that doing the same thing as the rest of those blogs would be very pointless--however, I have access to alot of this news prior to a majority of those sites and I'm fluent in the language unlike a majority of these other bloggers. Furthermore, not all my articles are intended for English audiences and figures aren't my only area of interest.
I believe GGT at NekoMagic translates the announcements from official sources, quite quickly, though not always with perfect English.

With just items you own, could you achieve your target of 1-2 articles a day of new content? You'd have to be making a lot of purchases, or a lot of update posts. "Day #23: 97 days to go until my figma arrives"

At anyrate, I would refrain from trying to be a news site, and focus on whatever original content you can provide. If you can however provide original content with relation to news, by all means. It's just a personal preference of mine, or rather a personal dislike for what seems to be a never ending growth of news sites, for all topics, not just figures. And really, I'm just one perspective, perhaps the wrong perspective as I make no income from my site and receive what I consider to be very few hits daily (on an annual average). Perhaps communicating with the sites you wish to emulate or are inspired by would be more beneficial to your goal.

shoInability to create timely content... I guess, I'd intended on having a site with as many updates as otakumouse... maybe I was trying to do too much, then again I still think it reasonable to at least manage 1 to 2 new articles per day...
Do you plan to be a news website? What more could you add to the other sites that already exist doing the same thing you propose? Do you have added insight they may not? Wcloudx and NekoMagic seem to have me covered pretty well with releases and event coverage in English and Japanese sites like moeyo and AkibaHobby have photos and reviews of pre-release figures. I'm not trying to be cruel, but there are far too many English figure news sites already, and I visit none but the two I mentioned. There's no need to receive the same information again and again. In fact, this is one of the reasons I so rarely actually click a blog link from MFCs aggregator, they all seem to regurgitate the same information.

shoI agree that is some superb photography, but it feels like a blog. Whereas your site feels like I'm reading a magazine... picture layout/arrangement, the simplicity of your site design while somehow feeling sophisticated...
I'm quite happy to hear that actually, that was the type of design I was going for, though I don't quite think I've got it down just yet. I've got some ideas to fix that in the future if I get the chance however. Nothing substantial but just a few minor changes I think would benefit the layout.

shoI think I just need to push through with each article and not expect to be done within a 1-2 hour timeframe ;o
This. Definitely this. Though I think having something to actually say or add to the "story" is also helpful. Numerous times I've written entire posts only to figure out I really had nothing to say, a lot of words yet nothing of any importance was said. So I would just delete those and write another post later when I felt I had something to say, or content to display.

shoI just noticed you were in COS recently... that's where I'm at til March lol... I don't like it here though
Not sure if COS is Colorado Springs, but I'm going to assume it is. I'm not sure I would like living there either, I think some of the smaller towns in amongst the mountains were far more inviting. That said, I'd take anywhere in Colorado that's near mountains and has Internet over where I live now. So tired of flat land and straight roads.

shoI'm freaking in love with your blogging capabilities. I tried to run a blog/photo gallery for all my figures, future figures (other collectibles, etc.) and it failed horribly. How do you manage to get all that content written up so easily... I swear it took me at least a day just to write up one decent article (one I was suffice with) and even now that I'm not even working I can't even find the time to do it.

You sir, are an amazing person :D

Thank you for your kind words.

What do you consider a failure? Or perhaps more specifically, what is it that made you feel your site was a failure? Answering this may help me give you some perspective with regards to the apparent "success" of my website. I think a lot of it may just come down to the perceived success of others, or unrealistic goals and expectations.

As for the actual content and it's creation, it definitely takes time to produce. I write and re-write entire posts again and again, and change formatting and read and re-read to make sure I covered everything I intended to (and then still forget some things). Then there are the photos I take, each needs to be processed from their initial RAW file into a finished JPG for posting. Depending on how creative I tried to get with shots, this could take hours and hours of work in and of itself. Then I need to combine my writing and the photos into what I hope to be an attractive layout that flows well together. This again takes more time as I manually resize each photo again and again and perhaps even crop them to fit the placement I've decided for them. Sometimes I'll get to this point and realize I didn't take a picture of something I mention specifically in the article and go back and shoot a couple more shots to include. While I'd consider each of these steps to be relatively simple, that in no diminishes the time required. I can't imagine how long it takes individuals like Tier from Tentacle Armada to produce their sets of photos. He actually constructs little dioramas and backdrops all his own in addition to creative lighting choices.
